What Is Transpersonal Psychology?
Transpersonal literally means beyond the personal. Transpersonal psychology is the study of connections. Every individual has a mind, body, and spirit, and these parts of self are interconnected. Every individual also has a relationship to others, to nature, to rest of the species on this planet, to the environment, to society, to culture, to religion, and to God or something greater than oneself. An understanding of these various connections or relationships offers great insight into each individual.
How Is Seeing A Transpersonal Psychotherapist Different From Seeing A Traditional Psychotherapist?
A good psychotherapist is a good psychotherapist regardless of educational background or professional training, although education and training certainly have an influence. A transpersonal background offers the client perhaps a wider lens, one that includes dreams, altered states of consciousness, religion, spirituality, and culture in the discussion of self.
