Cost: Dana. The practice of dana, the Pali word for generosity (pronounced “donna”), is a path to happiness. Giving is a way to cultivate compassion and self-awareness. Although it is not mandatory, we suggest you give as much as it takes for you to feel generous! This is uplifting for you and essential to InsightLA, so that we can continue to offer teachings.

Franklin, Ph.D., will be facilitating a 45-minute Tuesday evening group in Santa Monica designed especially for people dedicated to their meditation practice who want only to sit with a group. This group is right for you if you've already completed a beginning Vipassana/mindfulness meditation course of some kind, if you've been practicing Vipassana/mindfulness meditation on your own, or if you're currently taking a beginning meditation course and are interested in practicing longer meditations with the support of a group.

Daniel Davis
Daniel’s meditation practice began along with his sobriety in 1986, when Kevin Griffin took him to his first meditation retreat. For the last 20 years he has studied and done retreat practice with many teachers in both the Vipassana and Zen traditions. While working closely with people recovering from drugs and alcohol, and teaching meditation and creativity at treatment centers such as Bridges to Recovery and Promises, Daniel has developed a keen insight into the nature of the mind of the addict and understands the common pitfalls and limitations that arise for many people after being sober for many years.
As a result of continuous sobriety and meditation, Daniel Davis graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with honors. He also teaches music to children and adults, and writes music for concert, film and television. In 2007, Daniel completed the rigorous Dedicated Practitioners’ Program at Spirit Rock, and teaches the Basics of Mindfulness Class for Insight LA.
